The science that fuels every scoop, sip, and spoonful.

Huel has been rigorously tested in four independent studies — including randomized crossover and intervention trials — showing effects on satiety, post-meal blood glucose and insulin responses, micronutrient status, and markers linked to metabolic health.

The people shaping science and nutrition at Huel

Behind every Huel product is a team of scientists, nutritionists, doctors, and advisors who share one goal: to make better nutrition accessible to everyone. Together, they turn research into reality, creating meals that fuel health, focus, and everyday performance.

From idea to evidence

From early hypotheses to published outcomes, this is how Huel turns research into insights

Every Huel study begins with collaboration between our internal nutrition science team and independent researchers. Together, we define the study design, endpoints, and measures — whether it’s appetite hormones, micronutrient status, or consumer perception of wellness

Each human study is reviewed and approved by institutional ethics committees before participant recruitment begins. Where appropriate, Trials are randomized, calorie- and protein-matched, and often crossover in design to ensure results are objective and comparable.

Our partners include academic institutions such as Newcastle University and independent research organisations such as Aelius Biotech. Huel provides products and funding but does not control data collection or analysis. Some studies using Huel products have been conducted entirely independently, with Huel having no involvement beyond product provision.

Once data collection ends, the research institutions analyze and interpret the results, which are then reviewed by independent statisticians. Huel’s nutrition team reviews the findings to better understand how our products perform and where we can innovate further.

Some trials have already been published in peer-reviewed journals, with others currently under review — a process that can take months to years depending on the study’s complexity and the journal’s timelines. Peer review is a cornerstone of rigorous scientific research, where independent experts assess and provide feedback on a study before it can be published.

Huel’s scientific program is ongoing. We continue to partner with external researchers on studies exploring appetite, metabolic health, nutrient adequacy, and long-term nutrition outcomes. Each new phase of research strengthens our mission to make complete nutrition not only accessible but proven.
